Resilient Cities

Silver Median (Phase I)

Silver Median (Phase I)

About the Project

The Silver Median GSI Demonstration Project was a collaboration between the City of Albuquerque, Bernalillo County, the Nob Hill Neighborhood Association and other community-based organizations. This project resulted in the establishment of a novel pathway for community-led GSI projects in public rights-of-way, a new type of project that is emerging following the City’s first GSI ordinance.

Community Engagement

The project team conducted deep community engagement, including GSI education and a hands-on workshop, to inform the site design and build neighborhood buy-in that will support the long-term sustainability and maintenance of the site.

Interdepartmental Coordination

The team also brought together multiple City departments to create and document new interdepartmental work-flows that chart a formal, replicable process for City involvement, review, approval and permitting, enabling future similar projects to be completed more efficiently.

Phase I Outcomes

Phase I of the project resulted in City-approved designs for a GSI demonstration site in a highly visible area.

Long-Term Objectives

Additionally, a long-term objective of this project is to remove barriers for community-led GSI and encourage more of these projects to be implemented in neighborhoods across the city to amplify the benefits of wide-scale distributed GSI and promote climate resilience in Albuquerque, NM.
