Zack Wurtzebach

Executive Director

Zack is widely recognized for his ability to build collaborative networks that bridge science, policy, and practice. An interdisciplinary social scientist by training, Zack brings over a decade of experience working with federal, state, and tribal partners on innovative initiatives that leverage “big data” for conservation. In addition to leading SIG-NAL, he supports the nationwide expansion of Planscape with colleagues at SIG and the U.S. Forest Service, as well as the development of a nationwide Wildlife Information Network for strategic conservation and efficient permitting. Previously, as U.S. Program Director at the Center for Large Landscape Conservation, he helped advance federal and state habitat connectivity policy and contributed to the WAFWA Sagebrush Conservation Design and the USFS Climate Risk Viewer. When he’s not working, he’s trying to keep up with his wife and three daughters in the mountains around Bozeman, Montana.
