SIG-NAL is collaborating with Rio Grande Return with a phased project which first conducted a foundational analysis of New Mexico state policy identifying opportunities for investments in natural infrastructure and floodplain reconnection projects, to lay the groundwork for prioritizing nature-based solutions as an integral consideration of water planning, restoration and implementation activities across the state. Project deliverables of this phase included educational materials for legislative and executive branch decision-makers. The second phase is focused on outreach and education to agency leadership, program staff and state legislators to remove barriers to greater implementation of Nature-Based Solutions and codifying policies and program guidance that institutionalizes nature-based solutions as the minimum requirement of a diverse array of project types.
