A life-long learner, Shelby has cultivated an interdisciplinary, collaborative approach to engaging with the web of social and environmental challenges we face. Since finding a home in Albuquerque in 2017, she has contributed to work in urban conservation, environmental education for both youth and adults, ecological restoration, and source water protection as a Water Resources Scientist at the local water utility. As the Urban Waters Partnership Coordinator with The Nature Conservancy, Shelby engaged in coalition building to advance policy initiatives and on-the-ground urban conservation projects. During her time as Executive Director of Talking Talons Youth Leadership, Shelby developed and launched multiple new programs, including a Youth Conservation Corps and a long-term training and mentorship program model for cohorts of passionate young environmentalists. She is the current Chair of the Arid Low Impact Development (LID) Coalition, where she provides leadership in facilitating a network of green stormwater infrastructure advocates to collaborate and share resources across disciplines, in an effort to power a paradigm shift towards nature-based solutions in Albuquerque. Shelby joined SIGNAL in 2023, where she applies skills in grant writing, project management, strategic planning, and building strong partnerships to advance urban climate adaptation initiatives in both California and New Mexico.

Shelby grew up in Denver Colorado, spending many weekends helping out on her grandmother’s goat ranch in the Rocky Mountains. She received her Bachelor's degree in Environmental Education and Environmental Science from WWU in Bellingham, Washington, which included a field-based program in Southeast Asia. Shelby has lead efforts to organize multiple community events, workshops, and conferences, including the 2019 Uplift Youth Climate Justice Conference. In her free time she enjoys exploring new places, paddle boarding, practicing yoga, making things out of clay, preparing and eating delicious food, reading, and quality time with loved ones.
